Paper Spiders

When Melanie’s mother Dawn begins to fear her neighbour, she is forced to make tough choices to keep them both safe, all while navigating her life, love and her own mistakes.
Starring New Zealander Stefania LaVie Owen (Sweet Tooth); Lili Taylor (The Conjuring) and Peyton List (Cobra Kai), the film premiered at the Boston Film Festival, where it won awards for Best Film, Best Actress (Taylor), Best Screenplay and Best Ensemble Cast.

The screenplay from Natalie Shampanier is astute and purposeful. Paper Spiders doesn’t put a happy face on any of this, but it does instill hope and understanding. San Jose Mercury News

If the film’s flirtations with full-tilt melodrama occasionally strain credibility, a pair of intuitive, thoughtfully inhabited performances pull proceedings back from the edge every time. Variety

It is a pleasure to see Lili Taylor sink her teeth into a starring role, and she plays her character’s manic descent with a palpable and heartbreaking practicality. New York Times

Personal experience brings a rare honesty and authenticity to this film about mental illness. Los Angeles Times
