together after their lives and community are turned upside down.
When the local school faces closure, it’s up to the youngest son and his friends to save it
— cooking up one scheme after another as they battle the city kids for glory at the
regional sports day. Meanwhile at home, the family is divided by something bigger, after
one of the eldest sons joins the fight for Māori land rights at Bastion Point.

the-world spirit of ‘Stand By Me’ and ‘The Goonies’, it’s a story about children who refuse
to give up without a fight. But underneath the mischief lies real heart and real history —
one son’s fight for his people’s land driving a wedge through the family he loves —
grounded in one of New Zealand’s most powerful true stories.

The Redwood Scout Group is based in the heart of the Redwood Community and offers
Scouting to young people in the northeast of Christchurch.
Scouts is open to youth ages 5 through to 25 across 5 sections (and they will never say no to adults volunteering too).
Scouts meet each week and get up to all sorts of fun activities, from learning about the
world around them and how to be a friend as a Kea, through to learning to scuba dive or
fly a plane as a Venturer. Scouts can try anything and everything.
Scouts is youth lead with Kaiarahi (adults) providing guidance, support and safety with a
touch of challenge. Whether it’s ‘traditional ‘outdoor activities like cooking over a fire,
tramping, camping or learning about their environment or it’s more ‘contemporary’
activities like Laser tag, surf lifesaving, dancing or flatting skills, Scouts get to build their
own programme.
