A strange doorway appears in the basement of a furniture showroom… Directed by Kane Parsons in his feature directorial debut, “The Backrooms” is based on Parsons’ viral YouTube found-footage horror universe. His anthological series debuted in 2022 and focused on the story of a therapist searching for her patient who vanished mysteriously into a dimension beyond reality.
Bowling Green – “It happens to be one of 2026’s best films to date, with 20-year old director Kane Parsons establishing himself as one to watch. Parsons has crafted a hauntingly original horror film that takes elements from David Lynch and creates something truly original and memorable.” (full review here)
Free Press Journal – “With its distinctive visual imagination and sophisticated understanding of fear’s quieter registers, Backrooms transforms digital folklore into an absorbing cinematic experience while announcing the arrival of a filmmaker worth watching.” (full review here)
Filmfare – “The film does not rely on a creature to generate fear. Instead, the environment becomes the monster. Parsons understands that an empty room can be more terrifying than any apparition when it feels loaded with forgotten meaning.” (full review here)
