Ex Machina 10th Anniversary

Alex Garland is reuniting with Danny Boyle as the writer for 28 YEARS LATER, releasing on 19 June… here is Garland’s directorial debut EX MACHINA as it celebrates its 10th Anniversary.

Ex Machina is one of the most cerebral, thought-provoking sci-fi techno thrillers to come out of the 2010s. Written by Garland the movie wrangles with complex themes concerning the creation of Artificial Intelligence, technological advancements and their implications on society and the potential consequences of playing God.

The premise of Ex Machina had been gestating in Garland’s mind since he was a young boy, 11 or 12 years old, after he did some experimenting with basic coding on a computer his parents had bought him, which led to the piece of equipment behaving ‘with a mind of its own’.

A young programmer is selected to participate in a ground-breaking experiment in synthetic intelligence by evaluating the human qualities of a breath-taking humanoid A.I.
