Exit 8

Based on the global hit video game created by KOTAKE CREATE, this mind-bending psychological thriller is a new Japanese masterpiece.

A man becomes increasingly desperate when he finds himself trapped in an endless, sterile Tokyo subway passageway with no way out. He finds a set of rules: do not overlook anything out of the ordinary. If you discover an anomaly, turn back immediately. If you don’t, carry on. Then leave from Exit 8. When even a single mistake will send him back to the beginning, will he ever escape this purgatory?

Cinema from the Spectrum – “Exit 8 is no ordinary video game adaptation. Its source material, minimalist yet strange, gives Kawamura room to explore philosophical ideas while still engaging audiences with eerie tension.” (full review here)

InSession – “Exit 8 is an extraordinary feat of production design. Even before the Lost Man notices he is trapped, the claustrophobia of the subway and the liminal space where a familiar journey is halted is nightmarish.” (full review here)

JoBlo – “Even when the emotional arc is easy to map out in advance, there is absolutely no predicting the aural and psychological terrors waiting in that bizarre limbo. It successfully translates the interactive, immersive horror of playing a video game directly to the silver screen.” (full review here)
