Lucy and Tom are best mates running a tiny, broke theatre. When an accident forces them to shut down and Tom threatens to leave, Lucy realises she would do anything to save the theatre and keep her friend… who she might be in love with.
Directed by Curtis Vowell (Baby Done, The Outlaws, Seize Them!, Fantail) and written by Sophie Henderson (Baby Done, The Justice of Bunny King, Fantail), Workmates is a funny, heartfelt love story starring Sophie Henderson (Human Traces, Fantail) and Matt Whelan (Narcos, Go Girls) as Lucy and Tom – best friends, theatre-makers, and co-workers.
Shot on location in the theatres of Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland, most of the filming for Workmates was completed at Basement. The support cast for Workmates includes Aki Munroe, Arlo Green, and Zoë Robins. The film also features a host of well-known faces from the New Zealand comedy scene, including Kura Forrester, Chris Parker and Liv Tennet.
